We are very pleased to offer the opportunity for a lucky person to have some fantastic thrills and the chance to either go racing or simply drive a vey focussed and well sorted 1962 Austin Healey Sprite “Sebring”. Built for Hill climbs and Sprints and it is also ready to be used in CSCC and BSCC with a front cage. No expense has been spared on preparing this amazing machine and it has competed in 5 events winning the MG south championship two years running. Preparing race cars can be hugely expensive and time consuming, this MG is ready to be driven and enjoyed. It has a GRP body based on the original John Sprinzel Sprite Coupe design. They were raced and rallied throughout the 1960s, only 6 examples were built, two of the cars competed in the 1961 Sebring 4 hour race piloted by non other than Stirling and Pat Moss. There have been numerous versions produced and they remain a formidable race car.
This Sprite has an enviable spec which I will briefly cover: The engine is a Brett Simms Motorsport full race unit pushing out 148 BHP at the flywheel and 125 BHP at the wheels. It features 1.5 high lift rockers, vernier duplex timing gear, MED Omega pistons, H beam rods, Special Tuning carbonised crank, Peter May Alloy engine back plate and oil seal conversion. Mamba motorsport baffled sump, Aldon distributor and coil, MED lightened flywheel and clutch. The power is put down with a straight cut gearbox with an LSD by Hardy engineering and a 4.5 final drive. The suspension work was carried out by PME and Frontline consisting of 500lbs front springs, uprated front shocks with a PME damper top link. AVO adjustable rear shocks. It is all fed by twin HS6 SU carbs with an optional Webber 45 if required, Maniflow bespoke oversized LCB exhaust system with custom reverse megaphone exhaust with prototype Longman inlet manifolds. Further features include a 3 gallon alloy fuel cell, Facet gold top fuel pump, Mangoletsi fuel filter and pressure regulator, Powerlite starter and Odessey gel battery. Braking is taken care of with KAD 4 pot callipers, Ferodo 141 pads and EBC discs, Minilight alloys with TOYO tyres, braided hoses throughout and a fully plumbed in fire extinguisher. As you can imagine a huge amount of detailed work and expertise has gone into building this car.
On the road it is an amazing experience. It starts instantly and is very well behaved with an steady idle and shows very healthy oil pressure. The power delivery is instant and the noise is exceptional. This is a very fast and capable car that has a huge power to weight ratio that just keeps pulling through the rev band coupled with very sharp handling and excellent brakes. It gives you instant confidence to keep pushing which is what it was designed to do.
The interior is well presented and functional. It has Cobra bucket seat with TRS harnesses and a period bucket seat for the passenger. It has race gauges and period switches. Poly carbon sliding windows and internal and external door catches. It also has a Safety Devices rear roll cage.
The body is in good condition and vey presentable to a good race car standard. It is body coloured on the underside, a good looking machine that gets immediate attention both from its looks and incredible sound.
This Sprite offers an excellent way in to the very popular world of historic racing at a fraction of the what it can cost, it is both proven and successful and ready to go racing.
