We are very pleased to offer a rare survivor example of a 1988 Ford Escort MK4 1400 GL Estate. Finished in a wonderful eighties Burgundy red and looking very close to its original factory specification. I have great affection for these Cars and have owned many over the years and its very nice to find such a well preserved example that has a real time warp feel to it. This Escort has had only five previous keepers in 38 years and has only covered 86k. It is accompanied with a large service history folder which includes many years of previous MOTs and service receipts. The MK4 Ford Escort Estate is a very rare sight these days with only 149 Escort GLs currently on the road, that figure for the Estate will be much lower. Apart from being very rare, the Escort Estate is a very versatile Classic Car option, they are very practical and can be a fantastic daily retro and also offer entry into the huge Classic Ford scene, much rarer than many of the Fast Fords and not to mention the amazing levels of attention this car attracts wherever I take it.
On the road the Escort performs very well, the 1.4 CVH engine is very smooth and with 75 BHP has plenty of power with the addition of a 5 speed gearbox it cruises with ease. This was a great era in Ford production and a testament as to why these Cars are still so popular, easy and fun to drive.
The interior is very well presented and in complete factory specification. Being the GL model it has desirable extras form the time including front electric windows, tilt and slide sunroof and central locking all of which is working perfectly. The seats, carpets and roof liner are very well presented as is the switch gear. This model also features rear seat belts.
This Escort has a very well preserved shell and really does belie its years. This is a not a restored example, this Escort has been well maintained and has that original feel that many have lost. The paintwork is well presented, with minor age related blemishes but as you can see from the pics it is a very presentable Escort. The body is in good solid condition and it has a current long MOT with no advisories. The cambelt and tyres were changed last year and we have just serviced it and fitted new discs and pads. It is ready for many more years of Classic motoring and is also MOT and Tax exempt in 2 years.
