We are very pleased and excited to offer a real piece of Classic Mini history. In 1989 John Cooper Garages decided to take the bull by the horns and started to produce in house tuning kits for the Mini. It had been nearly twenty years since Mini Cooper production had ceased and the public were left wanting speed and excitement. Brand new Limited Edition Minis were converted under license from Rover and given the “John Cooper Conversion” Turning the humble 998 Mini into a fast road drivers machine which paved the way for the relaunch of the Mini Cooper the following year. Only a handful of these special Minis survive, I have only ever prepared one other and I am pleased top say that they still offer plenty of excitement, power, sound and fun, which is what we all need more of. Registered new Mann Egerton in Norwich, this Racing Green edition has only had three previous owners in 35 years and has only covered 77k. It is accompanied with all of its original Handbooks, service book, original dealer registration plates, Racing Green brochure and John Cooper Garages conversion Data sheet, brochure and the all important conversion certificate. It also has a large history folder stretching back to the early nineties.
On the road is where the fun starts. The 998 engine is very smooth and the gearbox is precise. The kit consisted of twin HS2 Carburettors, polished flowed cylinder head and a performance exhaust system. This gave the Mini a very healthy 64 BHP with 87Nm of Torque and a top speed of over 90 MPH. Power is instant and it revs freely through the rev band with impressive torque whilst being very smooth around town. Put your foot down and the twin carb growl will instantly make you grin, easily keeping up with anything in its path. This is a very special Mini to drive and hopefully its lucky new owner will enjoy driving it as much as I have.
The interior is very original and as it left the factory. Crayon Black trim, original carpets and roof liner. Three clock dash with rev counter and the original Rover cassette player. It also has twin USB ports. This model also has rear seat belts.
The Mini has a very solid shell with solid floors, vented sills and the rear subframe looks nearly new. The paintwork is well presented and it belies its 35 year vintage. It has its original Minilite wheels with the RSP wheel nut configuration. This is a subtle looking Mini that will certainly surprise people. If you want a drivers Mini the this also a piece of history may just be the one for you.
The Mini has been fully serviced, checked and driven and it has a long MOT so it is ready to go and be driven and enjoyed and be the envy of your friends.
