We are very pleased to offer a rare and iconic 1980 Austin Mini 1275 GT. These drivers cars have reached a high status amongst not just classic Mini enthusiasts but across the Classic Car scene and rightly so. GT’s are excellent fun to drive and they offer a real slice of Seventies motoring whilst being very useable at the same time. We have taken this GT in part exchange and it is offered as jump in and drive Mini with room for improvement. Finished in, what in my opinion, is the best colour ever for a Mini, Russet brown with contrasting gold coach lines and stripey trim. It still has its original wheel trims and wider profile tyres.
This GT has really appealed to me and I have enjoyed preparing and driving it. The best way to describe is as this is how 1275 GT’s used to be like before many got over restored. It is ready to be driven and enjoyed which is just what they were designed for. It is also a genuine GT with its original shell, body number and commission number which is quite a rare find.
On the road is where the fun starts. This Mini is awesome to drive and I can vouch for that as I have been enjoying it. The 1275 engine is super smooth and it delivers impressive power throughout the rev band with a smooth and precise gearbox, we have just fitted an RC40 exhaust so it has the correct burble. This GT really flies and will make you smile as much as it has me, it keeps up with pretty much everything in its path!
The interior is total seventies, stripey trim, original brown carpets and roof liner. It has the three clock binnacle with the all important 120 MPH speedo which indicates its intentions given the chance and the original Boomerang steering wheel. Simple and effective.
As you can see form the pics, this GT has fantastic used looks, the paintwork is aged but shines well and really does draw a crowd. It could benefit from a repaint or just simply preserved as is. This is a unrestored survivor example that is presented in ready to use condition with scope to improve in the future, but that is not the point of this car. It can be driven and enjoyed for many years as it is and it is certainly not a trailer queen, it has a solid shell, new rear subframe and body coloured inner arches. It offers its new keeper the true fun GT driving experience and gains them entrance to a very rare Mini club.
We have serviced, checked and driven this Mini and it is also MOT and Tax exempt.
