We are very pleased to offer a very rare 1963 Fiat 500 D Nuova, finished in Bianca white with a very stylish Rosso trim with matching roof. If you are after some summer fun and like me you have a passion for quirky Italian Cars then this maybe the one for you. The 500 D is highly sought after and much rarer than the mainstream 500. It is well known for its unique features, the main ones being those very cool “Suicide” doors and a full length sunroof, hence the word Transformabile which is Italian for Convertible. This 500 D is very unusual amongst its peers in that it has never been stripped and restored, instead it has been carefully cherished along the way and still has that original sixties feel as opposed to a pristine trailer queen. It is ready to be driven and enjoyed. Registered new in Rome in 1963 and imported in 2013, amazingly it still has its “carta di circolazione per autovettura” which is its original log book. This lists all of its previous owners during its time in Italy which is a wonderful piece of its history. It has had just two owners in the 12 years it has been here.
On the road is where the experience starts, these are very unique cars to drive and can become very addictive. Turn the ignition key, pull up the start lever and it fires instantly. This is a very easy car to drive with precise steering, the gearbox is also very easy use to use and positive. The engine is smooth and performance is actually quite brisk keeping up with modern traffic very well. The experience is quickly transformed by simply pushing the roof back, then the full wind in the hair experience is on offer and lots of smiles. You will need to be prepared for huge amounts of attention as everywhere I have taken this D people just want to admire it.
The interior is very well presented and is both simple and basic as these cars were intended to be. It benefits from recent seat covers, carpets, door cards and a re-trimmed roof. It has more Italian style than you can shake a stick at, beautiful steering wheel, single round binnacle and switch gear.
This 500 D is in very good unrestored condition and very solid. It has recently been fully worked through at Italian car specialist Ricambi with a two page invoice covering a suspension and brake overhaul and a full service and tune, it was very highly rated by them for not having been restored beyond recognition. The paintwork is well presented and it still wears a few of its battle scars from its 50 years in Rome but it is all the better for it.
It is fully serviced and is MOT and Tax exempt but will be supplied with a full MOT for the new owner.
